Jeff Curran waited seven years, but the addition of lighter weight classes opened the door and he is back in the UFC.

Curran will take on former 135-pound contender Scott Jorgensen at UFC 137 on Oct. 29 in Las Vegas, the promotion announced on Thursday. Curran’s last foray was a loss to Matt Serra at lightweight at UFC 46 on Jan. 31, 2004.

While Serra turned out to be a UFC champion at welterweight, Curran eventually contended for the WEC title at featherweight. Curran lost that fight to Urijah Faber at WEC 31 in 2007, and that began a four-fight losing streak that included a pair of fights at bantamweight but signaled the end of his stint in the WEC.

Jorgensen fell in his title shot to Dominick Cruz in December at WEC 53, the final event in the promotion’s history. Jorgensen knocked out Ken Stone with a punch from inside the opponent’s guard in his UFC debut at the TUF 13 finale in June.
